she feels like he will never love her quiet as much as he loved the other girl, she feels like his heart was taken a long time ago.
and now he's just too afraid to give it all to somebody else. It's like she will never  be the "first" at anything, it's like she couldn't ever replace her place.
it's the little things that make her feel like that..you know.. like on valentines day, she made him this super sweet gift and you know what he gave her ? nothing.. and it's not like she want's him to waste money with her buying expensive things.. that's nothing like that
but it's just the gesture that says: "I'm here, I love you and I'll never let you go" .. he could have picked a flower from the floor and give it to her that she would love it as much as if he had given her the most expensive diamond ring.
